Five Reno-Tahoe athletes, including a high school sophomore, have qualified to compete during the U.S. Olympic Track & Field Trials in Eugene, Oregon from June 22– July 1.
Three pole vaulters, two of whom trained through Reno Tahoe Athletics in the past, set personal bests in meeting qualifying marks. Mike Arnold, a Carson High grad and senior at Idaho State University recently cleared 18’ 1¾’ to earn his ticket to Eugene. Logan Miller, a Bishop Manogue grad and junior at the University of Washington cleared 14’ 4½” putting her in the women’s qualifier. She’ll be joined by Reed High and Oregon State grad Becky Holiday who vaulted 15’ 1¼”.
Another Reed High standout will also be in Eugene. Gabby Williams, daughter of former University of Nevada basketball star Matt Williams, ended her sophomore year of high school with a 6’ 1½” high jump allowing her to compete at the trials.
Reno High and Washington State University grad Collier Lawrence will complete in the 3,000 meter steeplechase. Lawrence is currently a volunteer assistant coach at UNR.
