Dedicated to Becoming the Next American Region to Host an Olympic Winter Games

2018? 2022? Whenever the United States Olympic Committee is ready for a solid Winter Olympic Games candidate, Reno-Tahoe will be the first in line.

Far too much is at stake for the Reno-Tahoe region to sit back. The considerations surrounding the Olympic Winter Games bid process are varied, complex – and compelling.

The challenge of influence peddling on the national and international level has largely been removed as a result of the problems - and the steps taken to correct the problems - that surfaced surrounding the Salt Lake City bid scandal.

Continental rotation – the practice of moving the Games from Europe to North America to Asia - has been de-emphasized by Jacques Rogge, the President of the International Olympic Committee, when he exclaimed in a recent IOC memo that the IOC will not discriminate geographically and that in all future Games, “the best bids will win.”

Significantly, NBC is the single largest revenue provider to the Olympic Movement, while nine of the IOC's major TOP sponsors are based in the U.S. The IOC has a vested interest in seeing Olympic Games take place in the United States.

Perhaps most significant of all, Reno-Tahoe is in the unique position of being in the middle of an Olympic-sized integrity surge on both the national and international level. The process must maintain a high level of transparency for all of the parties – the public, the USOC and the IOC.

There are few - if any - winter sports venues in the continental United States that can match our existing infrastructure, event experience and mountain venues. Today, Reno-Tahoe can build a bid that can win on the international stage. We have the opportunity. We have an incredible group of leaders from throughout the region - including Las Vegas, the Lake Tahoe communities, Sacramento and the Bay Area. And after you peruse this website – we'll have you!

Historically, Olympic bids realize success by being in the process for an extended period of time maintaining a clear and concise message. We invite you to be a part of the effort to make Reno-Tahoe the next American region to host an Olympic Winter Games. We need to be in the Game!
