Accommodations

With the tourism emphasis in the Reno/Sparks area, around Lake Tahoe, and extending west on I-80 to California, the number and variety of accommodations available for a Games is a tremendous strength for a Reno-Tahoe bid. Combining over 35,000 hotel rooms in the proposed Games core area, and many thousands more around Lake Tahoe, Games accommodations far exceed the capacity experienced in Salt Lake City during the 2002 Games.

All types of accommodations are available, and the size of some of the well placed properties in the Games core allows for the concentration of key Games constituencies. Media, broadcast, volunteers and officials can be housed in single or adjacent properties.

In addition to the high level and variety of potential accommodations, there is a good base of other tourist amenities, including multiple free-time activities of all types. It should also be noted that the air proximity to Las Vegas, and the location of Sacramento only slightly more than 2 hours driving time away, adds additional recreational opportunities.
