Wirth and Carrig Elected to Reno Tahoe Winter Games Coalition Board of Directors
The Reno Tahoe Winter Games Coalition (RTWGC) is proud to announce the recent addition of two regional stakeholders to its Board of Directors. RTWGC welcomes President and Chief Executive Officer of Squaw Valley & Alpine Meadows resorts, Mr. Andy Wirth, and Co-President of Vail Resorts, Mr. Blaise T. Carrig.
RTWGC Chairman and Nevada Lieutenant Governor Brian Krolicki enthusiastically announced the election of Wirth and Carrig. “I am proud to welcome these two fine representatives of the ski industry to become part of a dedicated coalition of leading Nevada and California citizens who are committed to building on the 1960 Olympic legacy that is attached to our states. Their experience and passion will most certainly help us reach our mission to bring the Games back to the region.”
Andy Wirth came to Squaw Valley in August 2010 from Vancouver-based Intrawest ULC where he served as the company’s Chief Marketing Officer and Executive Vice President of Sales and Marketing. Mr. Wirth has been in the position as President and CEO of Squaw Valley since August 2010 and presently, following the acquisition of Alpine Meadows, is the President and CEO of the parent company of both Alpine Meadows and Squaw Valley ski resorts. Wirth has more than 25 years in the mountain resort and hospitality management industry and, through executive positions with different ownership groups and parent companies, has worked with over 21 resort operating companies across North America. Wirth has extensive experience in all facets of competitive ski and snowboarding events, having chaired a number of World Cup events and is very active in the region and state, by way of serving on the board of directors for the Tahoe Truckee Community Foundation, the Tahoe Fund, North Lake Tahoe Resort Association and the Friends of Squaw Creek.
“Andy’s enthusiasm for the Reno-Tahoe Winter Games’ vision and his passion and energy to work on key elements of the project are critical to our success,” said Krolicki.
Blaise T. Carrig was appointed Co-President of Vail Resorts in 2008 after serving as Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of Heavenly Mountain Resort. His resort experience goes back to his position as President and Managing Director for The Canyons in Park City, Utah (2002) and Managing Director of Sugarbush Resort in Warren, Vermont (1996). His Board service includes seats on the Vermont Ski Area Association, Ski Utah, and currently on the National Ski Areas Association. His ties to Nevada are impressively linked to his seats on the Tahoe Baikal Institute Board and the Nevada Commission on Tourism.
“It is with great appreciation that we welcome Blaise back to the RTWGC Board,” said Krolicki. “Vail’s ownership of both Heavenly Mountain Resort and Northstar-at-Tahoe brings a new and exciting dynamic to our planning.”
The RTWGC Board of Directors roster of 32 members includes five Olympians: Jeff Hamilton, Daron Rahlves, Limin Liu, Andy Gabel and Tamara McKinney. Nevada Lt. Governor Brian K. Krolicki serves as Chairman of the Board, with Hawley Maclean (NV) and Jim Hartley (CA) each serving as Vice-Chairs. Jon Killoran is the RTWGC’s Chief Executive Officer managing operations from the organization’s Reno headquarters.
Formed in 2003 as a 501©(3) non- profit organization, the RTWGC mission is to promote the Olympic Movement throughout Reno-Tahoe by hosting, facilitating and embracing competitions and events showcasing the regions’ ability to be a premiere sports destination. The private and public sector leaders who comprise the RTWGC spearhead the effort that will lead to the selection of Reno-Tahoe as the next North American region to host the Olympic Winter Games.
